After the successful chapter of Mission Himalaya 2018, Rope4 Outdoor Education has organized Mission Himalaya this year as a part of the Youth Development program.

Mission Himalaya program is devoted to the young people of Bangladesh to discover their hidden talents and strengths. The young generation is highly dependent on technology for their entertainment and leisure time; unfortunately, many spend their free time engaging in negative activities (drugs for instance) and the opportunity of outdoor activities in our country is also limited. For this reason, young peoples’ total physical & mental strength is hidden. This is how we fall behind in potential youth energy which is vital for social development for our country.

A 4-day long training camp was designed and operated to bring out the best of 24 participants from different part of Bangladesh and they were selected through a rigorous audition session held in July this year at Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. The activities during the camp were emphasized mental strength, endurance, volunteerism, and leadership. Following the camp performance, most deserving 3 people will be awarded for an expedition to Yala Peak, Nepal as a motivation to continue a healthy lifestyle through a formal gathering in October this year.

The training camp contained the practice and exercise of various mountaineering terminologies, such as rappelling, jumaring, river crossing, Tyrolean traverse, and trekking. Regular physical exercise in the wildlife, high rope course, and many team building activities. Camping rules, associated theory class, map reading, navigation and introduction to equipment & gears also included in the curriculum. Activities were designed in such a way that team building, and volunteerism was the must outcome of those sessions.

The Founders of Rope4 dream to promote adventure activity and a healthy lifestyle as well. They organize various workshops on mountaineering, climbing and other outdoor activities. As part of their youth development initiative, they have programmed Mission Himalaya in such a way that the deserving candidates get the opportunity of the expedition for free to create the aspiration to challenge oneself. Mountaineering is the lifetime challenge and to qualify, one must maintain a disciplined and healthy lifestyle.

Rope4 is a nonprofit organization and managing this youth development award by the support of partners and crowdfunding. They wish to continue this program in the coming years as well. The Daily Star is the media partner of Mission Himalaya 2019. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, peak69, Mati-ta and Living with Forest are the partners of the program.
